Subspace Gate Issues

As I have posted previously, there are some issues associated with the current implementation of Subspace Gates.  The following save will allow you to see some extreme examples of why these issues need to addressed:

After you load the save you will see that my home sector has 3 Subspace Gates as shown in the first screen snapshot below.  Go to the Subspace Gate in the lower right-hand corner.  It should look like the second screen snapshot below.

If you click on the stack of ships that are sitting on the Subspace Gate you will see that there are 140 stacked ships or fleets.  If you then click on the "Manage" icon (shown in the third screen snapshot below) you should see the window that is shown in the fourth screen snapshot below.  It shows that there are 240 ships in the Subspace Gate tile.

These are the issues that need to be addressed:

  1. I am only at war with the Onyx Hive.  They have 3 fleets and 7 other individual ships in that stack of 140 ships or fleets.  There is no way for me to attack them other than with a missile attack and, in order to do that, I have to repeatedly click on the stack until one of the Onyx Hive fleets or ships is on the top of the stack.  Go ahead and try it.  You will quickly see why this game mechanic is not good.
  2. Both the Torians and the Baratak Grove have ships in the stack, but they are at war with each other.  How can they both have ships in the same tile if they are at war with each other?
  3. You don't allow more than one civilization to have ships in the same tile anywhere else but on Subspace Gate tiles.  Why do you allow it on Subspace Gate tiles?

Here are my recommended fixes:

  1. No ships should be allowed to come to rest on a Subspace Gate tile.  If they cannot reach an empty tile next to the destination gate then they should not be allowed to enter the source gate and a message explaining why they cannot enter should be displayed.
  2. There should be a weapon that can be sent across a subspace gate to target enemy ships that are located next to the destination gate (with some appropriate research, of course).
  3. Move the Subspace Gates at least 2 tiles away from the edge of a sector to make it more difficult to block ships exiting the Subspace Gates.
  4. Allow players to construct new Subspace Gates that start and end wherever they specify (with some appropriate research, of course).
